[00:00:02] Speaker A: Anyway, well, good to see y'.
[00:00:04] Speaker B: All.
[00:00:04] Speaker C: Hey, 167 back at you.
[00:00:07] Speaker A: Tell us what it's about again.
[00:00:08] Speaker C: You do it. Exciting week.
The Other 167 is a podcast geared towards helping you live those other 167 hours of the week. One hour a week in church. Yeah, we can handle that. But, man, how do we make it through and live a godly life? The other 167.
[00:00:24] Speaker A: There you go.
He does a great job with it. I love it.
[00:00:27] Speaker B: You've been practicing that line. I have.
[00:00:29] Speaker C: I've been, yes.
[00:00:30] Speaker B: I mean, in the mirror and everything.
[00:00:32] Speaker A: It's amazing.
[00:00:33] Speaker B: You finally got to say it.
[00:00:34] Speaker A: Yeah, There you go.
830's got a different vibe to it, different feeling.
[00:00:41] Speaker C: What's that now?
[00:00:42] Speaker A: Said 8:30 has got a different feeling, too.
[00:00:44] Speaker C: It does, doesn't it?
[00:00:45] Speaker B: It's not a lot of traffic here this time of year.
[00:00:49] Speaker C: No, it's everybody's Fourth of July, man.
[00:00:52] Speaker B: Everybody's at the beach.
[00:00:54] Speaker C: I did a brave side yesterday. At least there was some wind blowing that made it halfway.
You could at least stay out there for a while. But you could tell everybody was under the shade of the tent and there was a tree. Everybody was under that shade tree, too.
[00:01:07] Speaker B: I mean, you have to wear a suit.
[00:01:09] Speaker C: The family said just. In fact, the family gave me a passage. You don't have to wear a suit at all. You just wear a golf shirt and khakis. I said, well, I can't do that. I said, would you be all right if I just wear a sport coat and, you know, tie and everything else? They said, perfect. So I want khakis, sport coat and
[00:01:26] Speaker B: tie for this shirt.
[00:01:28] Speaker C: Sure. I know this is. This is loud now. I tell you, I put it on. I was like, good gracious.
[00:01:34] Speaker A: How's that? And I don't know if I'm supposed to shake your hand or salute you.
[00:01:37] Speaker C: It's. It is bright.
[00:01:39] Speaker A: That is.
[00:01:39] Speaker C: When I saw it. I got this at. At the Cracker Barrel. When.
When I saw it, I was like, I gotta have that.
You know, we used to BE on the 4th of July, we would, you know, dress patriotic. And I don't know why we didn't last week. It's just. I guess it's because it was early. It was early, and it didn't feel like really. So I'll wear this, you know, but it's the only Sunday last Sunday before the 4th, because, you know.
[00:02:08] Speaker A: So I guess that is how you. Is that how you usually do the four? Because I was caught off guard. When the.
[00:02:12] Speaker C: Yeah, I do the video.
[00:02:14] Speaker A: Yeah. When that video started playing game service last week, I was like, what's this for? And when it got into, like, the Fourth of July stuff, I thought, it's not Fourth of July yet, but I guess it.
[00:02:23] Speaker C: It is the last.
[00:02:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:02:26] Speaker C: No, it doesn't. And. And I tell you, I mean, I understand, but before the July has become. I mean, troop it on and people celebrate for about 10 days, two weeks. And this is the worst one because it is two weekends worth that. A lot of folks were gone last week, you know, stay gone on vacation until the 4th or the 5th. And a lot of folks are going on vacation, you know, Friday the 3rd or today might be the last working day.
[00:02:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:02:51] Speaker B: It used to be Easter was a big weekend for us.
Memorial Day was tremendous.
[00:02:59] Speaker C: Right.
[00:03:01] Speaker B: July 4th, because it wasn't on a weekend we didn't ever have much people. And then Labor Day, if you could get it, there were no hurricanes, but the dynamics had switched to where Easter was nothing. Yeah, Memorial's always been good. But July 4th is. Is where we really made a lot of money because I don't know if people have moved down here and they were used to doing two weeks, two weeks at a time or just over time. That's just how it developed or.
[00:03:29] Speaker C: Well, I think Easter has gotten to where it's. You don't know what you're going to get. You can go vacation on Easter and be. That's a couple of degrees and that's not.
You can't go to the beach that. But July 4th, you know, it's going to be sunny and, you know, it's going to be hot.
I think the other thing is a lot of plants back in the day used to shut down either the week before the 4th or the week of the 4th to allow maintenance because you already. Everybody's out. So a lot of MRO would be done maintenance and repair, and so you would come in and fix stuff or maybe, you know, repair stuff.
[00:04:00] Speaker A: Well, welcome to the 167.
[00:04:02] Speaker B: Hey.
[00:04:04] Speaker C: Been a while.
[00:04:05] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, now, we were here last week, weren't we?
[00:04:10] Speaker B: It was somewhat.
[00:04:12] Speaker A: That's right.
[00:04:13] Speaker C: I was in Tennessee.
[00:04:14] Speaker A: That's right. You were in Tennessee last week.
[00:04:15] Speaker B: I was, but that was a Wednesday
[00:04:17] Speaker C: and Thursday, but we couldn't do it last week.
[00:04:21] Speaker A: Yeah, I saw a movie this weekend. This weekend. We watched a couple of times. Have you seen. I can only imagine two.
[00:04:28] Speaker C: Yeah, I have not. Okay. But Kenny has.
[00:04:32] Speaker A: We watched it, I think, two or three days in a row. I watched it and then we watched it with mom and dad. And the next day me and dad watched. And the next day me and mom watched it. That good? It was really good. Yeah.
[00:04:42] Speaker C: So watch it that many times in a row.
[00:04:44] Speaker A: Yeah, I think I watched it first time. I think I watched it by myself.
And then I went up to mom and Dad's the next day and we were watching it and mom went to bed and dad came in there and they kind of tagged out. So me and dad finished watching it. And then the third day, I was. I went downstairs and mom and Christian were watching it. So I sat down and watched the rest of it with their. Most of it with them. So, yeah, I watched it three days in a row. But it's.
[00:05:08] Speaker B: So.
[00:05:09] Speaker A: I can only imagine. Was about that song.
[00:05:10] Speaker C: Right.
[00:05:11] Speaker A: This one is more focused on the song, even if you know that one.
[00:05:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:16] Speaker A: So it's kind of the backstory that there was a lot of stuff about that song I didn't realize, I guess, and how it was. They didn't actually start writing it. Somebody else had started to write it and couldn't finish it. So they gave it to them to finish. And it was really real cool story.
In case you do watch it, I won't tell you the rest of. There's surprises in it that are really good. Yeah, I thought.
[00:05:34] Speaker C: But did you like it?
[00:05:36] Speaker B: Yeah, I think we went to theater with it. Was it in the theater?
[00:05:39] Speaker A: Probably.
[00:05:40] Speaker B: Okay. Yes. Because Renee really wanted to go. It's after.
I mean, he's married and all that kind of stuff. Children, I guess. Yeah.
[00:05:48] Speaker A: It probably is about. Well, his son's like 15, 16 years old at that time.
[00:05:55] Speaker B: It's going further forward.
[00:05:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:58] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:05:59] Speaker A: Their manager, Trace Atkins, is hilarious. I love him and that It's. He's just so dry.
[00:06:05] Speaker B: Yeah, I like him, too.
[00:06:07] Speaker A: You know what?
[00:06:10] Speaker B: Isn't he a singer? Yeah, I thought so.
[00:06:12] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:06:14] Speaker A: Yeah, he was. He's big, tall dude, too.
[00:06:17] Speaker B: But I like him.
[00:06:19] Speaker A: Yeah, he's. But the movie was really good. And that song is one I knew it from. It's been years since I'd heard it. But listened to it again during that. And it's kind of reminds me, I guess I was thinking about Psalm 51 this morning. I read that this morning. And one of my favorite verses, God desires truth in our innermost parts.
That's so much easier to say than it is to do sometimes.
And I was talking to the kids about it last night that I think for Christians, it's.
And I don't even want it to sound like judgmental, I guess, because it's one of these things. Like, I probably used to be more judgmental about this. Like, everybody acts like their life's so perfect and all this kind of stuff. But the thing is, I mean, I was explaining to the kids, it's. You got to be careful with it, I guess, sometimes because people, A lot of churches, people show up to church and it's all just Kumbaya and everything's great and everybody's perfect and nobody has any struggles.
[00:07:13] Speaker C: Everybody's stressed out.
[00:07:14] Speaker A: Yeah. Now, you don't want to take it to the other extreme where you just come in and whine and moan all the time and Rob, you know, suck the joy out of the room, that kind of thing. But there's a balance again. Balance. But there's a balance to that where there's.
I appreciate the. I've said this before, but the. The Bible study on Thursday night or Tuesday nights with Doug and Kurt and those guys.
[00:07:35] Speaker C: Right.
[00:07:35] Speaker A: These things. Other Bible studies stuff I've been in, when people are honest with each other about what they're going through.
[00:07:40] Speaker B: Right.
[00:07:41] Speaker A: When I was telling the kids the.
The reason it's such a threat. I've heard people say it, that, you know, when you're surrounded by everybody who's got. All got their life together and you don't, you kind of cower back in the corner and don't say anything and because you're afraid you'll be found out and they'll find out, you don't have it all together. And I think that's what drives people away from church sometimes. But at the same time, you know, again, you want to be extreme about it and complain all the time. But there's.
[00:08:06] Speaker B: Right.
[00:08:07] Speaker C: And I think it is one of those things of, you know, we're always concerned about what everybody thinks about us. We're concerned about, you know, and. And I think it hurts. Real fellowship that. That if you don't have that. That openness and that genuineness. And I think there are times when, okay, not everything I'm going through needs to be expressed to 85 people.
It might just be one person.
And I think that's where, you know, discernment, knowing that, okay, this is. This is something I'm going through that I only need one or two people praying for. I mean, not. I don't want a lot of people praying. And I don't believe, you know, I fully believe that, hey, the more the merrier. At the same time, sometimes there's things in your life that it don't need to be public knowledge.
[00:08:54] Speaker B: You don't want that button that.
[00:08:55] Speaker C: Yeah. And I think it's, I think that's where discernment, I think that's also where.
[00:09:00] Speaker A: All right.
[00:09:00] Speaker C: That's where building those real genuine bonds really come into play. That, okay, this is somebody who's real. This is somebody who I can, you know, I can share something with that I know it's not going to be broadcast on the radio.
I can, you know, sit down and they're going to pray for me. They have some wisdom. I think that's the other thing is find yourself somebody that has got a little bit of wisdom about them because look, you can find somebody who's going to give you advice, that ain't no problem, especially anybody.
And I think it's one. Okay, I need good godly advice.
And that's where again, once that advice is given, now test the spirits, take it back to the scripture and see I, does this sound biblical? Because, you know, oftentimes I, I, especially teenagers, well, you know, they, they, they would give me some advice to do this and it's like they're, they're, they're 18, 16, 14.
[00:09:55] Speaker A: What are you listening to?
[00:09:56] Speaker C: Kind of, you know, what kind of life wisdom, godly wisdom can, some of them can't have it. I'm not saying they can't. But, you know, I, I, I want to make sure that there's some wisdom with who if I'm sharing with someone, especially a big, big issue or a problem.
[00:10:11] Speaker A: Yeah, the, so that's maybe the first layer of it, and that's hard enough.
I think the real hard layer of that is God desires truth within your most parts. Being totally honest with God sometimes can be really hard in a lot of different, from a lot of different angles, a lot of different directions.
[00:10:32] Speaker C: And we're not fooling him. Yeah, that's, that's, that's the thing is we think we are. Yeah, you're not fooling him. Yeah, I mean he, he knows the truth. And I think it is, I think you think about that verse God, you know, the truth in our innermost parts. We're talking about being genuine. We're talking about being sincere, we're talking about being real. And I think that's the, the thing, you know, God hates hypocrisy. I mean, that was what the Pharisees were eating up over. Jesus tore them up day after day on their hypocrisy. Yeah. You know, putting on airs doing this. I got my life together. When trooping in the Trooping on. Yeah, we might have a few things, but man, none of us got all this stuff together.
[00:11:14] Speaker A: Well, and I don't, I've never struggled with that part. And I don't say that to be boastful in any kind of way. I don't know why it is, but I've just, I've always, I think what you just said, you can't lie to him anyway. I've just always thought, what's the point? He knows the truth. I'm just going to tell him the truth. I have had a harder time here lately and it's been just something that I think as I've wrestled with it more, I've started. I think I can put, at least put my finger on it maybe a little more where it's like this three legged catch 22 or whatever you want to call it. But I am frustrated with God now. Ain't something you're supposed to admit or think or whatever, but the fact is I am and that's that. And it's like I told the kids, I think recess one time. Is it wrong to be mad at God? I said, well, sometimes you want you to be honest with him, but if you're mad at him, you just remember that he's right and you're wrong. I mean, I don't think, you know, sometimes that happens, but I know I'm wrong and he's right. And at some point I'll look back and realize how foolish it was that I was so frustrated and upset with him.
[00:12:19] Speaker B: Right.
[00:12:20] Speaker A: So okay, well then we won't say that we're mad. We'll just say, you know, we'll pray gratitude and we'll pray for other people and we'll pray for, you know, all the thank you and all the praises and we'll do all this and we'll just kind of ignore this thing that I'm really thinking. Well, that's not truth and he knows that. So I can't do that.
I'm like, well, dang, I'm, I'm sort of dirt if I do dirt if I don't. If I pray and I'm honest, then I'm sinning. If I lie to him, I'm sinning. So I just won't pray, I guess. Well, that's sinning too. That's what Adam and Eve are doing, hiding. He doesn't want us to do that either. So it's like, well, I don't know what to do.
[00:12:55] Speaker C: I think I would go back on the, the, your three, your three scenarios. Yeah, I'm not convinced that one of them is a sin.
I think it is legitimate and fair.
Especially when you read. You use Psalm 51. There's plenty of psalms where David is just as frustrated as he can be waiting for an answer. Why do the wicked prosper? Why does it seem like the world just.
And I don't think that is necessarily a sin. I think where we get into a sin is where we begin to take it to the extreme of. And God you don't care, or God, you're doing nothing about it.
[00:13:33] Speaker A: Mm.
[00:13:33] Speaker C: It's okay to express hurts, frustrations.
Hey, even anger. As long as it's anger over the right things to the Father, there's no. No problem with that.
I think it also. But I think we just need to make sure that we put a caveat on that of. All right, yeah, you can express it, but make sure you're expressing the truth. And then also what God's doing about it or who he is is true. Because that's oftentimes those frustrating psalms that I call them frustrating. P.S. that's not necessarily the. But the ones where David is so racked with why is this? And what is going on here? And God, I'm running for my life. You don't seem to care. It just seems to be. I think it's one of those that. But David always, usually on those psalms, comes back to the truth. But yet in you I trust or I will wait upon you. And he always comes back to the truth. And so nothing wrong with expressing your innermost feelings to the Lord. I mean, he knows what they are, so. So why not be real and just? Lord, I. Right now I am hurting. Right now I am discouraged right now. I am, you know, two steps away from being ticked off, whatever the case may be.
[00:14:50] Speaker B: You agree?
Yeah. Yeah.
[00:14:54] Speaker A: Well, I am two steps away from it. It's in the back.
[00:14:58] Speaker B: I think I made it very clear to people around me that I had nothing together.
And, you know, and I realize everybody, although they. A lot of times people don't show it, but everybody's broken.
[00:15:12] Speaker C: Yeah. You know, and it's a broken world and we can.
[00:15:15] Speaker B: That's so easy.
But I have kind of learned because I know God, you know, as far as prayer, because I don't understand a lot that goes on in my life, but I do know this, that God loves me and he's not going to do anything to hurt me.
And I always want to know.
I always pray to see God. How can help me to see this through your eyes and not My eyes. Because if. When I see it through my eyes, nothing's working out. Yeah. And. But I know, you know, Romans 8, 28 and you know, Romans 5, 8. Yeah. God loves us.
Well, I mean, that's all throughout the Bible. He's not going to hurt us.
But I understand it. Why am I going through this? And so there has to be sometimes. And I'm not saying I get the answer all the time, but I try to look at, Keep that focused, that God's not going to hurt me, that God loves me when I'm going through things and that he knows what's, what's, what's happening and help me to understand it. Yeah, but I'm not saying that I get the answer all the time. I'll get the answer maybe 10 weeks later. Oh, yeah, right.
[00:16:37] Speaker C: Well, you see, I had some.
[00:16:39] Speaker B: Sometimes it's years and you know, I understand. He understands we can't see around the corner. Nothing, you know, and that we can't tell. We don't know what's going to. We can't see outside either.
[00:16:52] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:16:53] Speaker C: But trust that he can, and he knows what he's doing.
[00:16:56] Speaker B: And the devil is trying to attack us all the time.
He's trying to kill us, trying to bring us to the slaughter. So. But, you know, that's just how I tried to look at things. I'm not saying I do it perfect.
I'm doing it better.
[00:17:11] Speaker C: Yeah, I think that's, That's a good rule to keep in mind. Whenever you, When, Whenever you're going through something is those two things. I think that's two. Two rules to make sure you always.
Anytime you look at a situation, look at it with these two things in mind. These are two truths that do not change.
He loves you. He wants the best for you.
Even if the best might not be the most enjoyable.
[00:17:36] Speaker B: Yeah, that's the thing. I know he's got my back. And I mean, he's. It's pretty clear in the Bible, and there's a lot of people that, you know, if you look at some of the Bible characters, Moses was on the run for. Yeah, he calls him. But Moses was on the run for 40 years.
He didn't have to go through that.
But God worked it out. God had his.
His future in his hand the whole time. And probably after 40 years, Moses probably realized, hey, I ain't going to. I thought I was supposed to leave the children out of Egypt, out of bondage, but I'm too old now.
[00:18:15] Speaker C: Yeah, well, I mean, that was the Exodus 3. He had excuse after excuse. He didn't want to go. I mean, he, he point blank told you. He point blank told the burning bush. God, yeah, send someone else.
[00:18:26] Speaker A: How many times.
[00:18:27] Speaker C: That's, that's, that's basically I ain't doing.
[00:18:29] Speaker B: Yeah, but when he was 40, he was ready.
[00:18:33] Speaker C: Oh, yeah.
And he did it his way and it cost him 40 years. Yeah, but I'm not sure that cost him for you. That's part of the, I mean, God, God took 80 years to build his character.
[00:18:43] Speaker A: How many times do you think in that 40 years he wish he had never come across that burning bush? I mean, that you wouldn't think that. But I mean, there were as close as he must have been with God,
[00:18:52] Speaker C: many headaches as the children of Israel gave him. I'm sure there were times I was like, these children are Israel. Yeah, but I'm sure he probably was like, no, I don't know if he ever got to that point. But I know there have been times when I don't want to deal with these people.
[00:19:06] Speaker A: Well, even. And I don't, I don't mean that in a, you know, I mean, I
[00:19:10] Speaker B: know what you mean.
[00:19:10] Speaker A: But there's, there's. Even if he did know, even if he still did believe in the promise of. Okay, yes, it's going to be. He's thinking it's going to be. I think I just did this episode. It's about ready to go out, I think, where you were talking about this and you said he probably packed for like a weekend trip and it was 40 years.
[00:19:29] Speaker C: The book of Deuteronomy starts out saying it's 11 day trip. 11 day trip from where they were going. Took them two years. Yeah. Then they denied or doubted. Took them 40 more years.
[00:19:42] Speaker A: But during that time, he didn't know how it was going to end. And there had to be a lot of times that he questioned something.
[00:19:50] Speaker C: Well, the call came in Exodus 3, Exodus 4 and Exodus 5. He's already God. You, what are you doing here? Yeah, you messed up. You called the wrong person. Pharaoh. Pharaoh's gone the opposite way.
I'm supposed to march in there. Pharaoh, let my people go. I serve Yahweh, Jehovah, let my people go. Pharaoh said, I don't know this God. And by the way, you got to make more bricks. But you, we're not giving you straw. You got to get straw up in them. So now you're waking up at midnight to gather straw so you can make bricks in the hot summer sun. Yeah, that, that went over real well with the children of Israel that I'm sure Moses was really thinking, this is going to be the easiest thing I've ever done in my life. I mean, he's ready to quit. They. They what? So let's say that was an eight day journey.
[00:20:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:20:36] Speaker C: He's went one weekend. I'm throwing it in. God, you. You've messed up.
[00:20:40] Speaker A: Yeah. And it's, it's so funny. When I first was thinking about that story, I'm like, I'm gonna go back and read.
Have to really sit down and think about those first five books to remember like the timing of when everything happened. Genesis packs so much into one book as far as time.
[00:20:57] Speaker C: Not a whole lot of people. And then it's like a lot of time.
[00:21:00] Speaker A: You slam on the brakes in Exodus and the next four books cover 40 years, I guess. Right.
[00:21:06] Speaker C: So give or take.
[00:21:07] Speaker A: Yeah. So sometimes I get my timeline off on that. Anyway, I was thinking about that a while back and I was like, let's say how long exactly? I'm going to go back and read the beginning of Moses's story when he goes to Pharaoh and then I'm going to take it all the way to the end. How long is that? It's the end. End of what? Deuteronomy, I guess the fifth book is basically.
[00:21:24] Speaker C: That would basically be because Joshua starts with. And Moses, the Lord's servant died.
[00:21:29] Speaker A: Yeah. So it's a four book story in a way. More or less.
[00:21:33] Speaker C: In a way. I mean there's, there's not many stories when you get to Leviticus.
[00:21:39] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:39] Speaker C: That's a whole lot of law. Yeah. Numbers is a whole lot of counting. I mean it really is. There's some things, but it's mostly. This is how many this tribe had and this tribe had and then list out descendants. So numbers. But there's some stuff in there. And then Deuteronomy is, is so yeah. Exodus really is more of the story.
Numbers in Leviticus has some. But not, not like Exodus.
[00:22:04] Speaker A: Yeah. But it's, it's easy to lose perspective is a easy way to say it, I guess.
[00:22:14] Speaker C: But, but, but you know, and it's, it's something that, and this is something that. And I, I made a note. I need to come back to that. But it is something that when you're studying the script and this is something that has come up twice this week in my, my life in talking with people and it is, it really is how to study the scriptures.
I hear people saying, well I just open it up and then I'm expecting God to Tell me what to do. That's not studying the Scriptures.
That's hoping for dumb luck. And I don't know. And I'm sure God can take it. Yeah, God can take his word and apply it. But I told the guy, I said, look, rather when you open up a passage and you're looking at it, rather than, okay, what does God want me to do? What I look at is, all right, what can I learn about God from this passage? But in order to do that, I need to have the background. Okay, who is this written to? Is it written to the children of Israel before or after exile? Excuse me? Exile? Is it written to a king right before he went to a war? Is it written after a loss? Is it written after a major sin?
Is this in the New Testament? Is it in the Old Testament? I said, you gotta know all that to really understand what's being said and what's going on.
And I think oftentimes especially.
I had a conversation with a young man. I did a wedding last year, and the guy called me out. He was not the groom, he was one of the party in the groom. And he said, you know, you explain what headship was about and what a male's role is in a marriage. He said, I've got a lot of questions.
So he called me and we talked for, I don't know, an hour.
And some of the interpretations he was doing. I was like, dude, that is not biblical interpretation.
I mean, he's like, well, I'm taking from this story in Isaiah and I'm applying it over here.
That doesn't always work out like that. And I think it's one of good, sound biblical study. And good, sound biblical interpretation is so key because we talk about, you know, you got to know the scriptures if you're going to live it. You got to know the scriptures if you're going to truly know. God loves me and he's got the best for me.
But if you're not studying correctly or you're not getting the truth because you can, you can come. I mean, look, I have. I mean, some of the exercises we did in seminary is, okay, from the scriptures, try to prove this is right.
And. And it kind of teaches you, okay. That's how people misuse scripture.
[00:24:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:51] Speaker C: So now let's use it correctly.
[00:24:52] Speaker B: Yeah, I agree what you're saying. I can prove anything that you know both sides. Yeah.
[00:25:00] Speaker C: I mean, if you.
[00:25:01] Speaker B: If you.
[00:25:02] Speaker C: If you pick and choose and you get this verse over here, which does not mean that.
[00:25:07] Speaker B: Yeah, you can do that in the pulpit. All the time. Not.
[00:25:10] Speaker C: It can happen, believe me.
[00:25:12] Speaker B: I'm talking, I'm talking about the prosperity.
[00:25:14] Speaker C: Oh yes. I can misapply.
[00:25:16] Speaker B: I don't know if that they're in the pulpit or not, but yeah, yeah,
[00:25:20] Speaker C: well it catches a strange group. It happens.
[00:25:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:23] Speaker C: But, but going back to. And I want to just add this real quick. Going back to what you said. I love, I love what you said is all right. Got to get nail down those two truths. God loves me, he wants the best for me.
It almost goes back to your wants and your needs.
You know, I don't need everything I want.
And you know what?
That's right. God knows everything that I need, but I may not want it.
Sometimes it may be discipline, sometimes it may be correction. And I don't know that I want that, but I need it.
And sure enough, I mean I think about growing up, a lot of things I needed, there were a lot of things I needed, I sure didn't want.
[00:26:08] Speaker A: Well, and in suffering especially, this is just the like plainly simple, I think obvious thing to say. But if God's ultimate will for our life is to conform us to the image of Christ. Right then if you are wondering why I'm suffering, look at how much suffering that he.
[00:26:27] Speaker C: He did.
[00:26:28] Speaker A: I mean it's not. You really can never play the woe is me card. I'm so unlucky. Why do I have to suffer so much when you compare your sufferings to Christ.
Now we're also not Jesus. We're not on that level. So we're not like to say that we should. I don't know, it's not the.
[00:26:43] Speaker C: I'm not dying for the sin.
[00:26:44] Speaker A: Right. That's exactly right. So you shouldn't try to, you know, maybe put that much on yourself either. But at the same time, if, if you're wondering why, why is there suffering? Why do we have suffering? Well, that, if that very. I mean I've got to think that that's part of the formula of conforming you to the image of Christ. Some suffering for whatever the reason that he's using it.
[00:27:05] Speaker C: Well, I mean suffering does have its purposes.
It refines us sometimes. It'll help you to trust more. I mean, it's got a purpose. Now we live in a suffering world because of sin, of course. But even God in his wisdom and his grace uses suffering to bring about a whole different scenario and to grow us. I mean look, if the church in Acts had never been persecuted and I don't know, that gets out of Jerusalem.
I mean it took that to scatter them to all. Right now the gospel is going around the world.
[00:27:40] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:27:41] Speaker C: Because they. I think they would have loved to just stay in Jerusalem and Judea, even though they had told not to. Or go to the uttermost parts.
[00:27:48] Speaker B: I think suffering breaks a lot of pride in us.
[00:27:51] Speaker A: Sure.
[00:27:52] Speaker C: Sure.
[00:27:52] Speaker B: I'm not as prideful. I don't want to say I've suffered a lot, but I've suffered enough that where I'm not as prideful as I used to be.
[00:28:01] Speaker C: And pride is a killer.
[00:28:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:28:03] Speaker C: Pride is a walk killer. It stymies anything that's going on in your life spiritually. I mean, it really does.
[00:28:09] Speaker B: I'm not definitely, I would say I'm not a prideful person because I. I guess we all. That's something we'll suffer for while we're here. But I'm. I'm not as near as prideful as I used to be.
Yeah.
[00:28:22] Speaker C: No, I.
I think as you go
[00:28:25] Speaker B: to life gets to you, it can be.
[00:28:28] Speaker C: I was going to say, and it's not a matter of age because I've seen people get more and more pride as they get older.
And a lot of times it's because they got more stuff or maybe they've accomplished more and they look back and they have a lot more pride. I mean, that's the book we're going to be looking at in the second part of the sermon. Sunday is Deuteronomy 8 is okay, you're going to become prosperous and you're going to get prideful. It was prosperity that led to the pride. I built this myself. Look how hard I've worked. Look what I've accomplished.
[00:29:01] Speaker B: And pride just, you know, you hear people talking about, you know, about themselves. Bragging, I guess, is what you would call it just leaves a nasty taste in your mouth when you hear somebody like that.
[00:29:13] Speaker C: No doubt.
[00:29:14] Speaker B: And so now do I sound that way? Yep. Yeah, that's it.
[00:29:19] Speaker C: Do I really sound like that?
[00:29:22] Speaker B: So that's kind of. Because I don't like to.
I get tired of hearing people bragging about this and that, this and that. Am I doing that?
Yeah. Well.
[00:29:31] Speaker A: And that also goes back to God's desire and truth in your innermost parts, even if you don't say it out loud. There's times you're saying it in your head or you're thinking it and that's the part that, you know, it's.
I guess that's good for the people around you. At least they don't have to listen to you bragging, but to God there's no difference. He's still hearing it and you still know it. And that can be the harder one to kick a lot of times, is what's in those innermost parts.
[00:29:56] Speaker C: And pride can really creep up and show itself in some of the oddest way.
I mean, it really can. Even with the craziest thing, even one
[00:30:04] Speaker A: that I've had to work on really hard, is something you said a minute ago about you. Even if you don't understand right now, you know you will later. And I think a lot of times that absolutely is the case. And at the same time, I think back to Job after he's whined and complained for 30 some chapters. The answer God basically gives is, I'm God, you're not.
[00:30:27] Speaker C: Yeah, that's it. And he comes to that.
[00:30:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:30:30] Speaker A: And Job realizes, oh, okay, there's that sometimes. And I think that's the. One of the things about that song, even if that's so. So great, is he's saying in the chorus, I guess I know you're able. I know you can do these things, but even if you don't. And that's the thing that is so hard to get to. I think it's one of, like, the final frontiers in spiritual growth, honestly, is to be able to say that honestly and mean it is. Even if insert X here.
[00:30:59] Speaker C: I think that's a big one.
[00:31:00] Speaker A: If you can get to that point, then you have peace, because now you have nothing to worry about. Now you don't have anything to be prideful about. Neck. But it's so. I mean, that's what I say. It's final frontier. It's such a hard thing to actually get and actually mean, even if then.
[00:31:16] Speaker C: So we call that level 401, you know, I am. Or 81. That's doctor.
[00:31:22] Speaker A: Doctor level.
[00:31:22] Speaker B: I've learned that.
Yeah, we all say we trust in God and, you know, but we all pray about things, but we all have. And I'm not saying all I'm saying me, I've already had. I've already got it figured out for him to take care of, you know, and so is that really trust. I've learned. I'm learning to realize I don't have to worry about anything. Yeah, that's hard to do.
I'll say that's very hard to do, but I don't have to work it out either.
[00:31:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:31:59] Speaker B: Yeah. A lot of times we know we don't have to worry about things, but we don't have to work it out either.
And I'm in that Area where I don't have to work it out.
Well, it is what it is. I'm just. Yeah.
[00:32:14] Speaker A: When you said that.
[00:32:15] Speaker B: Good. But that's where I'm at.
[00:32:18] Speaker A: When you started to say that, immediately the Mike Tyson quote came to my head. Everybody has a plan to get punched in the mouth.
[00:32:23] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:32:23] Speaker A: And I think it's everybody. It's easy to trust God till I punch you in the mouth. And then all of a sudden when life sacks you.
[00:32:30] Speaker C: Okay, now what.
[00:32:31] Speaker A: What play we're going to run. That's right.
[00:32:33] Speaker B: Yeah. And a lot of times you got to play the tape forward.
And where are you going to be in a hundred years, you know? Yeah. Does it really mean a thing? Does you know what's you're going through today? Does that really mean you're going to. You're either going to get over it or die and go to heaven?
[00:32:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:32:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
I would like to have that attitude on everything.
[00:32:55] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:32:55] Speaker B: But I'm saying I can't say I'm perfect.
[00:33:00] Speaker A: Matt Abrams sent a group text out to a few guys yesterday. This thing you want to start doing where we all pick a Bible verse that we're aspiring to live out more in our lives, I guess, and pray for one another and as kind of a group thing. So I was thinking about a little bit and I was like, man, there's a bunch of verses. Which one is my verse? And I'm. And Matt had already. See, he had a head start. It was his idea. He already knew his. So he. He popped in right away and I'm like, well, I need to hurry up and get something to him. But I don't know which one I want.
And as I. I was actually talking to Reese about it, she had a couple of suggestions. I was like, yeah, but that's not really where I'm at now. And I ended up coming full circle to probably what was originally my. My first favorite verse of the Bible was Matthew 6. 34. Okay, worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow worry about itself. It stands in trouble at all.
And well, no, seek you first is 33. Well, I mean, yeah, but.
[00:33:56] Speaker B: But that's.
[00:33:56] Speaker A: That's a point to what I'm going to say. That's right. Because I was. I think I love 634 originally, but I hadn't really read 33 yet. I just skipped to that one when I heard, you know, when I really started to digest 33 a little bit more. I think that one became more of a staple version is probably.
It is the more important of the
[00:34:16] Speaker C: two verses, I think I think one is the principle. That's how you do it.
[00:34:21] Speaker A: So back to what you said about context and understanding the Bible. Yes. When I was in college and I loved that verse. It was a carefree, don't worry about tomorrow kind of thing. I worry, but it's when you understand and believe. 33.
[00:34:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:34:35] Speaker C: 34 becomes dual 34.
[00:34:37] Speaker A: It doesn't say.
There was one very simple word that I think I skipped in college. It's because it says. I would always say, do not worry about tomorrow. For tomorrow. But it's. So do not worry about tomorrow because it's piggybacking off of 33 and.
[00:34:52] Speaker C: And really probably the rest of the.
[00:34:55] Speaker A: What he said 5.
[00:34:57] Speaker B: 1.
[00:34:57] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:34:57] Speaker C: Yeah. The Sermon on the Mountain.
[00:34:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:34:59] Speaker C: It's really 33. Yeah. Because 33 kind of is the. The middle of it, and it's kind of. Everything hinges on that.
[00:35:05] Speaker B: What's a good one for you? What do you like?
[00:35:08] Speaker A: I'll put him on the spot.
[00:35:09] Speaker C: Man, that is a. That is a great question, and I'd love to. If you give me four or five minutes, I'll find you one.
[00:35:20] Speaker B: One right off the top of a bed is about Hebrews 13:5.
I will never leave the north side.
[00:35:28] Speaker C: What.
So what's the principle there of you?
[00:35:33] Speaker B: I know he's with me.
[00:35:33] Speaker C: That principle.
[00:35:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:35:35] Speaker A: So this isn't What. So this is what you're striving for. This is something you don't have now. It's.
[00:35:40] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:35:41] Speaker B: Yeah. To know that.
[00:35:42] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:35:43] Speaker B: To realize that. Yeah. I'm not alone. And that's. Y' all probably don't have a hard time with that, but I. I have. And that no matter what happened, he's with me all the time, and he knows what's going on, and that's comforting to me.
[00:35:59] Speaker A: And Matthew. I think it's Matthew. That's the last thing Jesus says. Lo, I'm with you always. Isn't that the very last verse of Matthew or.
[00:36:06] Speaker B: No.
[00:36:07] Speaker A: Is that the last thing he says?
[00:36:09] Speaker C: Matthew 28, 19, and 20.
[00:36:11] Speaker B: Hebrews 13:5 is quoted. I think.
I can't remember if it. I believe Joshua is quoted as a quote from Joshua. Well, first chapter, second chapter. Is it what?
13:5 is a quote from the Old Testament, Joshua. Yeah, it is.
[00:36:27] Speaker C: It's a quote.
[00:36:28] Speaker B: First. First or second chapter?
[00:36:30] Speaker A: Yeah, I believe.
[00:36:32] Speaker C: No, I think for me, I. I think I would.
There's a couple of things. Either Philippians 3:10 or 3:14.
That's what I would do.
3:10. That I may know him in the power of his resurrection, the fellowship of the sufferings, being confined to his death.
Verse 13. Brothers and sisters, I do not regard myself as having taken hold of it yet what he's talking about, but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and reaching for what lies ahead for verse 14 has to go with it. I press on towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. So I guess that would be. Hey, I want to press on to know God even. Or know Christ even more.
[00:37:16] Speaker B: I was like that, forgetting the things of my past. Yeah. Because Paul had a past.
[00:37:20] Speaker C: Sure did.
[00:37:21] Speaker B: I mean, he was one of the worst. I don't know if he actually murdered people, but I do know he was there.
[00:37:28] Speaker C: Well, he was throwing them in jail and.
[00:37:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:30] Speaker C: And separating families. And he was there holding the coats.
[00:37:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:34] Speaker C: I put him as pretty much.
[00:37:35] Speaker B: He was probably. I don't know if he actually murdered him or he would participate point blank.
[00:37:42] Speaker C: Said I persecuted the church.
[00:37:43] Speaker B: Oh, yes.
[00:37:44] Speaker C: And.
[00:37:45] Speaker B: But he never said I killed people.
[00:37:47] Speaker C: No, but he had a lot of persecution. Kind of destroys.
[00:37:52] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:52] Speaker C: I mean, he held the coats while they stoned Stephen. So he's part of it.
[00:37:57] Speaker B: He's part of. But I mean, I agree with everything you said. I just don't know. He actually.
He just didn't actually say kill people.
[00:38:05] Speaker C: And he had a. He had a group of guys riding with him in Acts 9 and 8 when. Or 9 when he was going to. When he got blinded. So, I mean, he wasn't going to sing Happy Birthday.
Now, he might have just been to arrest, but I get it. I get it. But let's just say he wasn't nice.
[00:38:22] Speaker B: I mean, David, you don't have to. You don't have to see where David says he killed somebody. It's pretty obvious he did. Yeah. But I don't know how.
[00:38:31] Speaker A: Context again.
[00:38:32] Speaker C: David had blood on his hand all throughout his life.
That's why God said, I'll let your son build the temple.
[00:38:45] Speaker A: That's. That's another thing with context too, though, that you were talking about earlier. Because when I. I love that verse that I started with today that, you know, God desires truth in our innermost parts. I didn't realize the context of it till this morning. I was reading that that's what he was writing in response to. In repentance.
[00:39:00] Speaker C: Well, he basically, for a year has been hiding the sin.
[00:39:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:39:02] Speaker C: To sin matrix sins. Adultery and murder. Yeah. And covering up and then the process.
[00:39:08] Speaker A: For how long?
[00:39:09] Speaker C: A year?
[00:39:09] Speaker B: At least. Yeah. A year. Yeah.
[00:39:11] Speaker C: He kept that.
That secret for a Year.
[00:39:14] Speaker A: So when did it be? When did he, when did he confess it and who did he confess it to? I guess. I guess I never really.
[00:39:20] Speaker C: Nathan. Nathan confronted Nathan front him.
[00:39:22] Speaker A: That's right.
[00:39:23] Speaker C: And. And Nathan confronted him and told him a story. And I love the way Nathan did. That's one of the smartest things ever because you know, just tells the story
[00:39:31] Speaker A: and doesn't tell him it's about him.
[00:39:32] Speaker C: Don't walk into a king and say, by the way, king, you're guilty of this, this and this and everybody.
[00:39:37] Speaker A: But this was after they'd already lost the child.
[00:39:41] Speaker C: I don't think so. I think it was Elizabeth's child after him, if I'm. If I'm not mistaken.
[00:39:47] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:39:48] Speaker C: But it should be second Samuel. I want to say it was 8, 9, 11.
[00:39:52] Speaker B: But his whole household knew.
Knew the lie. And that's cost David some sons actually.
[00:40:00] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:40:00] Speaker B: They saw him as a father. They could do the same thing. Yeah.
And sometimes you kind of be.
Be careful on the example that you.
[00:40:12] Speaker A: While he's looking that up. Another thing we were talking about last night on Bible study or not for whatever day it was, correct me on
[00:40:21] Speaker C: this, your child dies after die. He's confronted.
[00:40:24] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:40:25] Speaker C: So the COVID up was long enough for the child to be born. So.
But there's another passage
[00:40:33] Speaker B: was born after.
[00:40:34] Speaker C: After. After the confrontation.
[00:40:36] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[00:40:36] Speaker C: That they died.
[00:40:37] Speaker B: Yeah. I think he said he would die, didn't he? Did he not? What Nathan?
[00:40:43] Speaker C: I'm pretty sure he did.
[00:40:44] Speaker B: Yeah, I thought so.
[00:40:45] Speaker C: But basically he said it's going to be all kinds of trouble in your house.
[00:40:49] Speaker B: And you know why there was trouble? I think what I see is that his, his whole family, David thought he's covering up, but everybody else was seeing him. I mean like they.
[00:41:05] Speaker A: I think isn't that very true in the world sometimes today that the things that we think we're hiding are plain and obvious to everybody around us. We just don't know it.
[00:41:13] Speaker B: We just.
Sin is so deceptive. We can deceive ourselves so easily or anything.
[00:41:22] Speaker C: Well, the heart is deceptively wicked and we will lie to ourselves and believe it.
[00:41:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:41:28] Speaker B: Like, because I believe it. I think everybody believes it.
You know, it's like everybody is entitled to have their own opinion, but nobody is to have their own facts.
We get it mixed up that our opinions don't really matter. The facts are the facts. Yeah. They don't lie.
[00:41:58] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:41:58] Speaker B: Yeah. But we can lie to ourselves about the facts. Yeah.
[00:42:05] Speaker A: We have anything else on David? I have another question.
[00:42:08] Speaker C: I tell you what. The more I think about David.
He's always been an interesting study to me and I think it's one of the.
I really want to try to do maybe a sermon series on the life of David. And I've never really done it and I think I would love to really dive in. So I'm going to start putting some time towards building that.
David is one of the most interesting cats to me in the fact of he's a man after God's own heart. Dig that.
I mean, you talk about some of the psalms he wrote, you can tell he has a heart for God.
Worst family life. I mean, you talk about family
[00:42:45] Speaker A: with
[00:42:45] Speaker C: a capital T Y S. I mean, this guy had a dysfunctional family. I mean, he had a son that, you know, basically every stepson, stepsister, raped each other. His own son. Absalom slept with his concubine in front of everybody. He got run out of Dodge by his own son. I mean, and now if you read 2 Samuel 12, when Nathan confronts the prophet, or when prophet Nathan confronts David, it almost sounds like it's a repercussion of what he did with Uriah and Bathsheba because he said, because of this basically, evil's not gonna leave your house. Turmoil. And he even tells him the baby's gonna die, your son's gonna sleep, take your wine. I mean, it is. I mean, that man had a.
He had some stuff. Boys.
[00:43:38] Speaker B: Well, you know, Absalom. Yes.
But in the end, it kind of reminds me of Christ somewhere for us. Not. I mean, it's not direct.
I hate to put that on there. But David, despite what all his son did, David did not want him killed. David still love it, you know, in spite of all we do to Christ, to God, God still loves us.
[00:44:04] Speaker A: Well, and David the same way with Saul too. I mean, despite. I mean, Saul had done a lot to David and he had an opportunity to take Saul out and didn't.
[00:44:15] Speaker C: Time after time in the cave. And he also, you know, showed. Showed kindness to. Mercy to his descendants. He didn't have to do anything for Mephibosheth. He could have easily taken him out. And that's what you did.
[00:44:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:44:31] Speaker C: You don't. You don't leave the other kings heirs alive. Yeah, but they did.
[00:44:37] Speaker A: But David, I'd love for you to do a study on him sometime, but because it's. He's a.
I don't know if he's. He's probably as good of an example as there is, if not the best example of both sides of the coin, of getting it really right in a lot of ways. And getting it really, really wrong in a lot of ways.
[00:44:59] Speaker C: He is the epitome.
[00:45:00] Speaker A: He's the Rusty Wallace of CH Records, baby.
[00:45:04] Speaker C: He is.
[00:45:05] Speaker A: He's a grand marshal of Wilkesboro, by the way.
[00:45:07] Speaker C: Oh, really?
[00:45:08] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:45:08] Speaker C: Oh, I believe that.
[00:45:09] Speaker B: And yeah.
[00:45:10] Speaker A: Yeah, Rusty is. I'm excited.
[00:45:11] Speaker C: But he is either one the batting a thousand.
[00:45:14] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:45:14] Speaker C: He is struck out. He is Reggie Jackson. Yeah.
[00:45:17] Speaker A: And I think that's.
I think I just keep running in circles and going back to the same points, but that's back to, I think, why it's so important to be honest with ourselves and others.
[00:45:29] Speaker B: This.
That was worst thing to do is lie to yourself.
[00:45:33] Speaker A: Well, I was. So I won't. I won't go into all of this.
She'd kill me if I did. But Reese has been. Reese is about as honest of a human being as God's ever created. To a fault in many ways. But she's. She does not lie.
[00:45:47] Speaker C: Most of.
[00:45:48] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:45:49] Speaker C: On my mind.
[00:45:49] Speaker A: That's right.
And it's been something here lately. She's been talking to me a lot about, you know, these things. These things that she thinks that she just feels terrible about thinking them. And I get it. And it's as. When it first started. I was like, okay, what's going on here? But the more she's done it, the more I've kind of started to realize all she's doing is you think all the worst things that you ever think in your life that you would never tell anybody that you thought she'll tell it.
[00:46:15] Speaker C: She's saying, I feel.
[00:46:16] Speaker A: But see, the problem is because nobody. And I told her this finally last night. I said, look, I said, if I told you every single bad thing that I've ever thought, like, you'd be really concerned. And I actually did tell her. I said, here's a few things that I'm thinking that I wish I could stop thinking now. You know I love God. You know that I don't want to think these things. You know that I don't really believe these things. But these thoughts pop in your head that you just have to dismiss them. It doesn't mean you're evil. It means you're human.
But, Jimmy, when we.
Because most people don't share that side of them. And I'm not saying you got to take it to the extreme.
[00:46:51] Speaker C: She does.
[00:46:52] Speaker A: She needs tone it down. But. But we don't.
We think that we are the only ones that think these things. We think we are the only ones that have these struggles or we. Maybe not literally we're the only ones, but there's a.
Even looking at the Bible, we only remember the good things that David did. We only remember the good things that Solomon did. We only remember the good things that Moses did. We kind of sweep under the rug some. Some people. I'm not saying we do, but it's easy to kind of sweep under the rug. Some of the bad stories. I didn't have a clue how messed up the people in the Old Testament were until I read it.
[00:47:25] Speaker C: Well, they're heroes. They're heroes. And I love that the Bible always paints the heroes with clay feet other than Christ because, well, he didn't have them. But I mean, there's only one person other than Christ that, That I can think of that. That's a major player that didn't have a sin recorded against him, and that was Daniel.
And I dare. And he knows he did.
But I mean, it is.
I mean, these guys that we look to. Abraham, boy, he stumbled and bumbled.
Davis, Noah, you name them, they messed up too.
And maybe Isaiah, some of the prophets.
But as far as.
Major. Major.
[00:48:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:48:06] Speaker C: You don't have the biographical like you do.
Be anybody who's got biographical. They made big mistakes, you know, and, you know, we are too. And we do, and we do. And we have.
[00:48:18] Speaker B: And I've made big. I've made big mistakes.
I'm not. I was not.
I mean, I made my. My share too.
[00:48:28] Speaker A: And I think that the.
The more you. We've kind of said this before too, but the more you are honest with yourself, the more you acknowledge your. Your own flaws, your own sins.
That's where.
[00:48:40] Speaker C: That.
[00:48:41] Speaker A: I won't quote it perfectly, but where sin, grace abounds. Where sin increases, grace abounds. The more you acknowledge how broken you are, the more God's love shines. Balancing the. Because it's what I finally told Racist. What I want you to do every time you have these thoughts, instead of thinking about how bad you are, just remember how much he loves you, that
[00:49:03] Speaker C: even he knew and take them to it.
[00:49:06] Speaker A: Long before you were ever born or had any of these thoughts, he already knew every one of them you were going to have, and it already died for you.
[00:49:12] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:49:12] Speaker A: So there's not.
[00:49:15] Speaker B: It's.
[00:49:16] Speaker A: And I think the people that are prideful, they miss out on God's love because they don't think they need any grace.
[00:49:20] Speaker B: Well, they think they're. Well, that that's what stops up most people. Yeah.
For salvation, I would say, is I'm a good Person. Even mass murderers sitting there. Good.
But, you know, a comforting verse to me.
You can be humble, but you can also remember that you're. You're not anything. You're not a favorite to God. God says you don't have favorites. And that's a very.
That's a very verse that you can tie to.
Tied down to.
And I know the Jews, they are. They're God's chosen people for a nation.
But God loves the Palestinians just as much as he loves the Jews. He loves the Americans just as much as he loves the Arab Simona.
He loves. Yeah. The good thing is.
And surprise, surprisingly, he loves being peers. I mean, that's.
[00:50:32] Speaker A: He even loves Carolina fans.
[00:50:33] Speaker B: I know that comes.
I know that shocks you there, but he.
We're all nobody's favorite.
[00:50:42] Speaker A: I think that's a. That's a good way of putting it. And I think for me, I have to bring it a little bit more local than that and think of an individual or two individuals or 10 individuals that I'm angry with.
[00:50:52] Speaker B: You.
[00:50:52] Speaker A: You pick that one enemy. That. Or. Yeah, those five enemies or whatever. That's the one that's more challenging to me than remember, he loves the Palestinians or the Russians or whatever, you know, but it's.
[00:51:02] Speaker B: It's.
[00:51:03] Speaker C: But not.
[00:51:03] Speaker B: You can dehumanize. The thing is, when we dehumanize, that's what makes God gossip. So. Gossip. So.
[00:51:13] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:51:14] Speaker B: Devastated. Once you dehumanize somebody. Yeah.
That. Oh, yeah. Really. I can't believe they did that.
[00:51:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:51:21] Speaker B: I can't believe they did that. I can't believe what I've done. You know, to be honest with you, I cannot believe what I've done.
I think I was thinking about that the other day, man. I. That you were stupid. Yeah. Really. I mean, I don't use that word to anybody else, but I use it to myself.
[00:51:39] Speaker C: You know, that's what I'm.
[00:51:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:51:41] Speaker C: What a boneheaded move.
[00:51:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:51:43] Speaker C: Yeah, I do that one.
[00:51:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:51:47] Speaker C: I think one of the things that you know is a verse that I. I remind myself all the time is, you know, and I always like to say, all right, choose your enemy.
And here it is. Is First Peter five. Five says you younger. Likewise, be subject to your elders. And all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another.
Because God is opposed to the proud, but he gives grace to the humble. Choose your enemy. You can. You can have God as your enemy, but he's going to go on in verse nine or verse eight and talk about a roaring lion that already. You already have an enemy. I don't need to.
[00:52:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:52:26] Speaker C: And I sure don't want one of God. Yeah. So I think humility is.
Pride is such a killer. And it is. I mean, you are putting yourself as an adversary to almighty God when you. When you are pride and rightful.
[00:52:38] Speaker B: And if you go out into eternity without Christ, I mean, you. It's because of pride. In my belief. I believe it's because of pride. I think that's. That's the big sin.
But even if you're burning in hell, you're still. You're still mad and upset. That why. You know, you're still holding on to that hate, pride, whatever.
Did you agree?
[00:53:03] Speaker C: I don't know if I got biblical proof of that.
[00:53:05] Speaker B: Well, I'm just. But proof is the.
Actually the. I mean, the rich man never repented.
[00:53:15] Speaker C: Yeah, but. But is he.
[00:53:18] Speaker B: I. I don't.
[00:53:20] Speaker A: Yeah, I heard. So I heard that.
[00:53:22] Speaker C: I mean, he's begging God to send somebody.
[00:53:24] Speaker B: Yeah, but he never repented.
[00:53:26] Speaker C: No, but. But. Because it's too late. Yeah, but I don't know that it's
[00:53:30] Speaker A: a. I heard that exact same thing the other day and I don't know what you said.
[00:53:33] Speaker C: That's all. I don't know what they're going to be doing.
[00:53:36] Speaker B: So.
So there's no. Really pushback because you're not sure.
[00:53:39] Speaker C: I think it's what, gnashing the teeth and wailing?
[00:53:43] Speaker B: Yeah. That sounds to me like pretty prideful.
[00:53:45] Speaker C: But I know like that sounds more like anguish, but let me just tell
[00:53:50] Speaker B: you, I think you're going to express what was already in your heart.
It's. It's kind of like if I put my hand on a stove, what will be the first thing out of my mouth?
Wow. Man, it's hot.
Jesus. Yeah, but what would be somebody that is not a Christian first thing they put in. What would they say? Yeah. Gd. You know, just.
[00:54:18] Speaker C: So I'm just trying to. I'm just trying to verify that that's all.
[00:54:23] Speaker B: The hill thing is this is.
[00:54:26] Speaker A: I don't think that this is.
I'm not trying to make this a reference to anything biblical. It's. I don't know, personal theory maybe, but I think the more I've thought there's that analogy somebody probably shared on here.
The. There's no. There's technically no such thing as cold. It's just the absence of heat. And the analogy was. And same with light and darkness. There's no darkness. It's just the absence of light and evil. Or is just the absence of God? Or I don't know if that was the exact way it was put, but basically hell is certainly the absence of God.
[00:54:57] Speaker C: Right.
[00:54:57] Speaker A: And I think the more I talk to unbelievers and hear the way some of them look at it and things like that, I think if you just removed all the, I've said this before about the Rapture and stuff, that, yeah, if you took all the Christians out of the world, all heck would break loose. Yeah, I mean, I think that that's. If you just let, well, sin run rampant without any thing trying to check it, it would get crazy. But now hell, to me, I think of, okay, even if it is, and I'm not trying to weigh in on how much is, how much suffering is there and you know how hot I want. But here's the thing. You don't want it if you, if you.
I think even if it were as simple as people who don't want God in their lives are left to their own devices to do things their own way and they get what they want, their pride wins and they get to do things their way.
They may not realize it, but that would be healed. Yeah, you take God out of the equation and it would be healed.
[00:55:48] Speaker C: No God.
[00:55:48] Speaker A: And I think that that's. Yeah, that's the part people, when people say, why does God send people to hell? And some people say, well, they send themselves.
[00:55:58] Speaker B: Right.
[00:55:59] Speaker A: I think there's something to that in a way in that you make that decision now, the sovereign elect. People would say something different about that. I guess divine election or whatever.
[00:56:08] Speaker B: I guess there's some truth to that. I didn't know, but I just think, I believe God has already showed us a way.
We choose and I believe we elect decide if we're going to go to heaven or hell, whatever that looks like
[00:56:23] Speaker A: on a very small. I'm not trying to make this like an extreme example, but on some, just like the abundant life is or the eternal life doesn't start when you die, it starts at the moment of conversion.
[00:56:36] Speaker B: Well, eternal life starts at the moment of conversion.
[00:56:39] Speaker A: Right. I think in a lot of ways, just like we experience the abundant life and eternal life here on earth, neglecting God, I think you also are getting a taste of hell here on earth. I'm not saying it's the extreme and all that kind of stuff, but it's when, when God is the source of joy, love, peace, patience, all these things and you reject those, those things, your life's going to have a taste of hell in it already.
[00:57:06] Speaker B: Yeah, I agree.
[00:57:07] Speaker C: I agree and I Think it's one of. Yeah. What. What does darkness look like on the earth?
I mean, I think that's where I was. Like, I don't know that it always results in anger. I mean, to me, it can be discouragement. It can be depression. It can be tormented. It can be just. I mean, that's why I was like, I don't. I think darkness can take so many ways. Yeah.
[00:57:33] Speaker A: Flavors. As pride does in terms of the
[00:57:36] Speaker C: way I think you can. I mean, pride's part of that. I mean, that's where.
[00:57:39] Speaker B: It's a lake of fire.
And, you know, a lake is always. The water's always moving. You don't see that. But most time, water is always moving.
[00:57:51] Speaker C: I mean, I'll put it to you this way. You don't want nobody to go there, including your worst enemy.
[00:57:56] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:57:57] Speaker B: Real quick.
[00:57:58] Speaker A: I know you got to run. We got the parade coming. I have a question.
[00:58:01] Speaker B: Are you going to we care parade?
That's what Renee told me. I didn't know there was a week. You dress for it.
[00:58:08] Speaker C: You look American.
You do look American. Shorts and T shirt in summer. That was nice.
[00:58:14] Speaker B: There you go. Glasses.
[00:58:16] Speaker C: And, you know, World cup has come over. All the. All the countries have come over for the world cup, and they realize, wow, we're nice and we got cool stuff. Yeah, I think. Yeah, if you want. It's kind of like. Think about that. If you watch the news. Yeah. You're going to end up hating Americans or hating America.
[00:58:32] Speaker B: You're going to end up hating life, especially.
[00:58:34] Speaker C: Yeah. Life.
But the world has watched the news, and they think that we're all. Who knows who we are. But they, you know, Americans, then they come over here and they realize, no, they're halfway nice. And even today, World cup, the folks that are coming in, the folks from all over the world, you know what three cities they have said were the nicest?
Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles.
And I'm sitting here thinking, three countries, three cities in the United States. Philadelphia.
[00:59:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:59:06] Speaker C: You know, only one worse than Philadelphia is Baltimore. Sorry, all you Baltimorean jeep.
[00:59:10] Speaker B: We must be heaven, I'm telling you. Wow.
[00:59:13] Speaker C: But. But I mean, they labor those three cities. Boston. It was Boston. Boston, Philadelphia and L. A. I believe. But I was. I was sitting there and listen to that and said, I cannot believe that. But that's because they just. They found out.
[00:59:27] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:59:28] Speaker C: That they had been skewed.
[00:59:29] Speaker B: Write down what y' all think now.
[00:59:32] Speaker C: I think I said, 48, you're signing off.
[00:59:34] Speaker A: Okay, well, I do have time for question real quick.
[00:59:37] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:59:37] Speaker A: So one thing from Psalm 51 I noticed there, I just wanted to clarify. So he says in verse 11, do not take your Holy Spirit from me. What's the difference in the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament and the helper that comes? Because Jesus said, I'm going to send you a helper, but Holy Spirit.
[00:59:56] Speaker B: Now I'm going to let you answer because I'm not sure myself. I mean, I know what the difference is, but I don't know how to explain it.
[01:00:02] Speaker C: Well, technically there is no difference. And technically there is a difference. It's the same. He's the same God. He never changed. So the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament is the same Holy Spirit in the New Testament, but it is different in the Old Testament. He would come upon the believer and empower them for certain things. And I think when David is writing, do not let your spirit. I think it is that closeness, that relationship that he was having.
But the Holy Spirit would come upon somebody and equip them for a special moment, special ministry, something that had to happen in the New Testament. The whole dichotomy changed. Now he empowers, now he indwells. When you come to Christ, you have the baptism of the Holy Spirit, you have him living inside of you constantly. So now it's a. In the Old Testament, it was temporary, now it's permanent.
So I think that's the best way. And so I think when David writes that, though I'm not sure if it's the exact same as what we're thinking after acts at Pentecost, I think he is talking about that. That spirit that, you know, that relationship I have with you and that. A closeness.
[01:01:12] Speaker B: Would you say it's almost like hovering, maybe? Yeah. Yeah.
And now it flows inside a deep river.
[01:01:21] Speaker A: I don't know if this has anything.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not. And I might be just making an issue or something. That's not an issue. But it also kind of makes me think about the. We always talk about the Old Testament heroes and how much they were feast or famine, good and bad and all that kind of stuff. You know, they could do good things when the Spirit was upon them, but then they. When the Spirit wasn't upon them. Look at what they did. I don't know if there's anything to that or if it's just a coincidence that I'm thinking about it, but it's. You think about the. The roller coaster ride that a lot of those Old Testament folks had.
[01:01:53] Speaker B: It's just like today and just like people today.
Yeah.
[01:02:01] Speaker C: All right, bye that right.
Oh man.
[01:02:10] Speaker A: Go back there.
Go back where I told you to go.
[01:02:17] Speaker B: Lord have mercy. There's right Ready? Keep them entertained.
[01:02:20] Speaker A: Yeah, I should have just left Gate which I don't know, I left I brought them both. I figured they could entertain each other, but that might have been a mistake, I didn't. I don't like to leave Gabe by himself cuz he'll go back to sleep, right? I to don't want want to leave him sleeping in case something happens, whatever, but anyway.
